EMBRACE RESILIENCE. EMBRACE GROWTH.
The Resilient Therapists is:
A place on the internet for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP's), Occupational Therapists (OT’s), and Physical Therapists (PT’s) to gain strength, wisdom, creativity, laughs, and resilience in the face of the growing challenges we deal with daily across all settings and populations. This information is also for those that work with children in any way, shape or form, or those that work in health care, because…. well, it’s no secret it’s no cake walk either. We all need a hint of motivation, a laugh, a kick in the pants, a good cry, to know others feel the same, and information to arm us with the knowledge we need to get our job done, and done well. This is where you can get it (not all at once and not in any particular order). And it will be brought to you by any of the following mediums: podcasts, blogs, interviews, materials, webinars, trainings, and books. Many of these are coming soon!
The Resilient Therapists are:
YOU. You are the one in the trenches, you are the one staying up late, working over, and during the weekend to get the paperwork done on time (or done at all), you are the one taking the punches when one of your students has a bad day, you are the one moving students around to attend that meeting, or do that school duty, you are the one breaking your back to get it all done. You have times when you need a rest, when you need a laugh, when you need motivation, or when you simply, need help. We all need help sometimes. And there are seasons when we need a lot of help. It’s ok to need help. This is what this community is for. For us to help each other, in any way we can. Yes, we sometimes feel tired, overwhelmed, stressed out, physically and mentally exhausted, sick, anxious, irritated, frustrated… The list could go on. HOWEVER, we are also strong, intelligent, confident, caring, empathetic, flexible, patient, and hard working.
The Resilient Therapists is for:
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP's), Occupational Therapists (OT’s), and Physical Therapists (PT’s), but this information can also be very useful for anyone working in the same settings as SLP's, including (but not limited to 😊): hospitals, schools (public & private), skilled nursing facilities (SNF), home health, assisted living facilities, private practice, government programs, and outpatient facilities. Confession: some of this information will be specifically tailored for SLP’s, because (spoiler) I am an SLP and that is what I know I can truthfully write about and write specifically too. I have never been a teacher, a paraprofessional, a nurse, etc. But that does not mean I haven't observed their hardships while working alongside them. I fully believe this information is able to help anyone working in the settings above, or in any setting in general! Plus, (another spoiler!) in the near future other professions will guest star on the site to share their knowledge and tips/tricks that help them stay resilient!
The Resilient Therapists can help with:
Raise your hand if you have ever been personally victimized by your workload (yes, that was a Mean Girls quote!). But seriously, I know I've had and I'm sure plenty of those reading this have been too. As stated previously, the tools provided throughout The Resilient Therapists are not just for SLP's. They are for anyone who could use some help, some community, some laughs, a venting session, or some motivation about a very too common problem: we are overworked and underpaid, hence may I add under appreciated. This then can lead to feelings of exhaustion, frustration, maybe even anger (or this that just me?). I've seen way too many hardworking people fall into this hole, myself included, and I wanted to through my hat into the ring to offer advice to help fix it. My ideas are definitely not a one size fits all, or the end all be all, but if I can just help one person it's completely worth it.
